Russ. & Ry. - Russell & Ryan's Crown Cases Reserved (England and Wales)
Forming part of the English Reports, Volume 168. Coverage of from 1799 to 1823.
The original statement of scope:
"Crown Cases reserved and decided by Twelve Judges of England, 1799-1824."
First published in 1825 in 8 volumes. As of 1822, to 1838, Crown Cases coverage was continued by Lewin.
On William Ordnall Russell (1785-1833) and Edward Ryan, Holdsworth writes:
"Russell, who reported Crown Cases, became chief justice of Bengal (India); and, before he attained this rank, he had written a classic treatise on the criminal law (A Treatise on Crimes and Misdemanors (1819); aka Russell on Crime).
"Ryan, his co-editor of the reports of Crown Cases, also became chief justice of Bengal, and, after he resigned that office, a member of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Later he gave up the membership of the Judicial Committee, and became the president of the Civil Service Commission."
