In 1877, it was renamed the North Western Reporter and included Wisconsin court opinions.

In 1879, the North Western Reporter included court decisions from the supreme courts of:

  • Iowa;
  • Michigan;
  • Minnesota;
  • Nebraska;
  • Wisconsin; and
  • Dakota Territories (now North Dakota and South Dakota).

It published until 1942 (volume 300), when the original series gave way to a Second Series: N.W. (2d) or N.W. 2d or even NW 2d.

The publisher is still West. This law report is the original law report of the West company, as of 2010 West-Thomson, a subsidiary of Thomson-Reuters.
