Latch - Latch's King's Bench Reports
Forming part of the English Reports, Volume 82.
Written in law French, as was the language of the English Courts, still, in 1625.
The collator was "le tres savant et le tres erudite homme, Monsieur Jean Latch", of Middle Temple, London.
The preface to the original, by Edward Warpoole of Gray's Inn, is a delight.
"Reader, the testimonials of many sages of the law, the judges, and his contemporaries, give you an assurance above all I can express, that the original of this impression was all written by that worthy person's own hand."
In very un-British language, Gefrey Palmer, in the preface to his King Bench Reports, says this of his colleague Jean Latch:
"The author lent his book (of cases) to Mr. Latch, in whose reports now extant are above 120 cases transcribed (which although corruptly enough) yet that the reader should not be incumbered with repetitions, are here purposely omitted."
