JMLC - Journal of Maritime Law and Commerce

  • Jurisdiction: United States
  • Dates covered: 1969-
  • Publisher/Reporter: Journal of Maritime Law and Commerce

Related Citation: J. Mar. L. & Com.

This law journal, plagued, as were almost all law journals in decades past, with bulky and peculiar legal citations such as "J. Mar. L. & Com.", now discarded by the publisher, and now promoting the far simpler, and digital-friendly public domain legal citation of JMLC.

"Published by the Jefferson Law Book Company", ran the footer of the first issue, volume 1, in 1969, and, "edited at the New York University School of Law".

Today, the publisher describes JMLC as follows:

"(M)ust reading" by both the United States and worldwide shipping communities

"... a scholarly publication devoted to all aspects of admiralty and maritime law, including the law of the sea....

"The Journal of Maritime Law and Commerce was founded in 1969 by George Jay Joseph, a Washington, D.C. lawyer who perceived a need for a law review devoted exclusively to maritime law.  The Journal, together with its sister publication, the Journal of Law and Education, is published by the Jefferson Law Book Company of Baltimore, Maryland."
