Replaced the short-lived FCT - for Federal Court, Trial Division.
Published decisions of the Federal Court, Ottawa, Ontario (Canada).
In 2002, the Federal Court, based in Ottawa, Ontario, opted for a database and Internet-friendly citation system: FCT, for the Federal Court - Trial Division. In 2004, this was reversed to FC for Federal Court.
Since 2004, all cases chosen for release to the public are assigned a permanent FC number with the four-digit year followed by the FC and then a sequentially assigned number which starts at 1 on the first judgment issued as of January 1, and ends with the last judgment published on December 31 of each year.
Since 2004 to date, the Court sustains a mirror legal citation, CF, for Cour fédérale, which is assigned to French-language version of judgments.
Thus, for any given FC judgment, there can be either an FC citation, a CF citation, or both.
