BCCA - British Columbia Court of Appeal (Canada)

  • Jurisdiction: Canada
  • Dates covered: 1999-

Related Citation: BCSC, BCPC, B.C.L.R. (CAN), B.C.R., B.C.J., BC Reg.

1999 to date.

In 1999, British Columbia's highest level appelate court opted for an official legal citation, database and Internet-friendly neutral citation system: B.C.C.A., for the British Columbia Court of Appeal. It may be spelled in the neutral citation format, without periods, as in "BCCA".

Now, all cases chosen for release to the public are assigned a permanent BCCA number with the four-digit year followed by the BCCA and then a sequentially assigned number.

For example, the February 2001 appeal case Shields v. Shortt, 2001 BCCA 80 or the September 2006 case Marioni v Marioni 2006 BCCA 455.

The hierarchy of the Courts within British Columbia: BCPC > BCSC > BCCA.
